Good Morning America invited me to respond to actor Katie Leung coming forward about racist attacks towards her during Harry Potter, and then being asked to deny them. We discussed the importance of challenging the status quo and breaking silence in Hollywood (from sexual harassment to racism and beyond) through reimagining structures, accountability, community and coalition building, using one’s privilege, dismantling hierarchies, representation, scarcity mentality, and more. It’s not isolated to Katie and it’s not isolated to Hollywood - these incidents are all rooted in the same systemic oppression.
